You cannot compare to them, for all of you are living gentlemen; all of you kindred and dear countrymen with a country and cause. All of you are warriors passing through an epic poem. This grand brotherhood is now but a seed in the ground, not yet seen, but there we are — germinating, vegetating.

And when we emerge, my dear letters — my fair-headed sons of God — we will rise like a great mound, and then into a mountain.

None shall hurt or destroy throughout my holy mountain, says the Lord. I am with you always, to the very end. May they first take me. May no one offend any of these, my children; the finest flowers of the field. I may be your emperor, but I abide only by your will.

Ezekiel 37 Can these bones live!!!!

And I know, dear letters — my brothers — that we are united by the same Divine Being; all of us burning in our hearts; that which burns within we need not even name. We need only agree that we walk together, united and free, by the smiles of Divinity. And this goodness is in you, so by all means, believe and be free. I give you leave to dream and foresee the destiny of our nation in your image, for there are none on earth so worthy as those I see before me.

Come, my friends. I am your vessel and you are my only kin. The kings of the earth have gathered here against us — against our glorious revolution. They dismiss all the blood we have shed for the freedom of mankind. But today they shall be no more. Today we crush them. Furthermore, Ezekiel speaks of David being king over Israel, a reference to Christ who comes from the Davidic line Matthew ; Romans The vision of resurrection in Ezekiel is thus followed by an expansive metaphor in that finds fulfillment in the new covenant. Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy!

Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump died in the soil, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put out branches like a young plant. But a man dies and is laid low; man breathes his last, and where is he? Job — For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God , whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another Job And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake , some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever Daniel Most of these references to bodily resurrection in the Old Testament are mere allusions. Some liberal scholars may deny that some or all of these Old Testament passages foreshadow a future bodily resurrection. However, if one believes in the inspiration of the Old and New Testaments, as well as their continuity, then it should be presumed that the Old Testament teaches a future bodily resurrection.

This is because it would be unusual, if not unheard of, for such an important New Testament concept to have no basis in the Old Testament. This can be seen from the records of the New Testament. The Apostles did not invent their doctrine of a future bodily resurrection but found it in the teaching of the Old Testament. Thus two of the Old Testament passages mentioned above are cited in the New Testament in the context of bodily resurrection—Hosea 1 Corinthians and Psalm Acts They foretell a future bodily resurrection but usually do not make an outright claim.

Combined with the chapter's connection to the new covenant, this supports the understanding that Ezekiel 37 also foreshadows a future bodily resurrection. It should also be noted that there were actual bodily resurrections in the Old Testament. This week I saw a vision of bones. One might call it a photograph. There was a long table with colorful cloths folded and placed along both sides.

On each folded cloth was a human skull. These were skulls of Native Americans. Bones that had been collected by the United States government during colonization and put in museums or used in college classrooms. Bones from unmarked graves. People that cannot be identified except to know that most of them were of African descent.

Dry bones in the valley where God has set down the prophet. These bones also tell a story; a story that was familiar to people in the ancient Near East. Of a battle in which one side lost decisively and their bodies were left to rot and roast in the desert sun. We know this was a familiar story because there are ancient Assyrian relief sculptures that show battlefields with dead bodies scattered around.
